At Politico, Meredith Shiner has a disturbing article. If you have read my site for very long, you know I am a Democrat and not afraid to call them out. You also should have noticed that if I think a Republican is treated unfairly, I will speak up for them because I do believe that fair is fair.
I am calling out a Republican tonight and, if you have read this site for very long, you know I am Jewish.
That might be why I have no desire to see another side.
I was not born decades after the Holocaust. The Holocaust was ongoing when I was born.
Rich Iott is the Republican candidate and he is running for Congress, trying to defeat incumbent Marcy Kaptur in Ohio.
Mr. Iott participates in re-stagings of World War II. Does he have reasons for it? He says he does.
He says he has reasons for dressing up as a Nazi.
He may, he may not.
It is not something to play around with. I do not find it funny or amusing.
I wish I could feel differently about this. I was I hd a bigness in my heart on this. But I am sorry. I just cannot. I know what was done by the Nazis.
It is nothing to play around with.
U.S. House Representative Kaptur's campaign has issued a statement:
A spokesman for the Kaptur for Congress campaign today termed opponent Rich Iott’s involvement with a Nazi SS re-enactor organization “outrageous and indefensible.”
Kaptur spokesman Steve Fought said that Wiking, the Nazi re-enactment group to which Iott belonged, promotes “a twisted and dangerous view of history.”
“Wiking members say they re-enact ‘to honor’ the Waffen SS soldiers. But honestly, who would honor such butchers? They fail to mention that the entire SS organization was declared a criminal organization by the Nuremberg war crimes tribunal.
“Wiking members say they ‘salute their (Waffen SS) courage and loyalty to put their lives on the line in defense of their native soil…’ It’s time for a fact check: the Waffen SS fought mainly on foreign soil, not native soil, and they committed atrocities against civilians throughout Europe and against American soldiers in Belgium.
“To perpetuate such a twisted and dangerous view of history is outrageous and indefensible.”
